Quick trivia: In the original movie, Abydos was located OUTSIDE the Milky Way, in a whole other Galaxy. In the TV series the gate network can only travel within a galaxy  (at least for 7 chevrons) . The beam has locked itself on a point somewhere… in the Kalium Galaxy.
