Leslie's blog: Making of the Stargate cake

So, seeing as my cake has already been featured here, I thought I should actually get my own blog post up.

The backstory: this year, as many of you know, I took a couple of cake decorating classes. So, for Evan’s 25th birthday, I wanted to make him an awesome cake, but I didn’t know what to…

Stargate Universe: Season One

mattcaruso:

After what feels like only a few weeks, the first season of the Stargate franchise’s third series is over. It’s been quite the ride since October aboard the Destiny. I started posting weekly reviews of each episode after the midseason premiere, “Space,” so I figured I’d write this retrospective to pay some honors (and maybe a few dishonors) to the first half of the season.

From the very first shots of “Air,” I knew that Universe was going to be a whole new kind of Stargate. I’m a media production student, so allow me to get oddly specific. The music was no longer orchestral. It was ambient and percussion based, slightly more like the score of Battlestar Galactica. The title font was a sans-serif (I know, my nerd is showing) and it was much less classic than the other two shows. The camerawork was handheld… and what the hell is a “kino” and why does it look so strange!? It hasn’t been for a while, but the premiere of Universe marked the very end of Kurt Russel’s Stargate

Here’s my lengthy, in-depth take on Season One as a whole. I debated breaking this into several posts, but ehhh, you guys can handle it. Put your thinking caps on and click “Read More.”

Can’t wait for October? Neither can I.

Review: STARGATE UNIVERSE season 1, episode 20 “Incursion (Part 2)” (season finale) by @dakinegirl

Another great review on SGU’s season 1 finale! by @dakinegirl

The second part of Incursion proves they really have grown not just as scientists but as more rounded characters in the show. Not only were they working together like a well-oiled team, but also spoke out against the counter-productive Col. Young/Dr. Rush head-butting and yelling. It’s refreshing that Rush (Robert Carlyle) /Young (Louis Ferreira) were not as much of a focal point. They took a backseat allowing some of the more minor characters to emerge more fully.

Great observation @dakinegirl!

Also, love the special mention in the end. :)

That is a perfect shot to end the season. A battled Col. Young looking for a miracle.

Stargate Universe: 1x20 "Incursion, Part 2"

With the end of “Incursion” comes the end of the first season. Universe has been getting more and more action-heavy since the mid-season premiere, “Space.” “Incursion” really shows off Universe’s ability to showcase an entirely different kind of action than the rest of Stargate franchise….

That’s is one damn good review. Why even bother blogging when you can reblog? :)

OLD interview with Lou Diamond Phillips

In light of Subversion and Incursion, I see how the producers sold Lou Diamond Phillips on the character!

THE DEADBOLT: What was it about the SG-U script and the Colonel Telford character that spoke to you?

PHILLIPS: Well, I’ve said this before: The original two-hour pilot and the episode that follows it, very few people with my resume would go, “Oh, my gosh! This is something I’ve got to do.” I don’t have a lot to do early on with the series. But it was in conversations with Brad and Rob that led me to take a leap of faith. This guy’s going somewhere. He’s going to be a player and will contribute to a very interesting ensemble and a lot of very interesting interpersonal dynamics between the characters. And knowing that I get to work with Robert [Carlyle], you’re upping your game.

Do you think Telford (@loudphillips) finds his way onto Destiny in the final 2 episodes of the season? Becoming a regular for season 2? That would be awesome.

Stargate Universe: Miss Manners doesn't cover body-swapping etiquette

Some burning questions regarding body-switching!

  1. Etiquette on sex while in another persons body.
  2. Why doesn’t a persons accent switch over? (Rush - Telford)
  3. What happens when a person dies while in another’s body

to answer #1, check out Kino #23.

2 As for the accent, I never thought about that! :)

3 - both die right?
